Planning for a wedding is stressful, time-consuming and very expensive, especially for the bride. Although I had the responsibility of picking out my bridal party's attire for my recent wedding, my husband also suggested that I be in charge of picking out his party's attire as well since in his words, "the woman knows best." I had my mind set on selecting the men's tuxedos from one men's apparel store I visited about two months ago. However, I still wanted to shop around. One day before going to work, I wandered into a store on Ashley Street. To my surprise, the first thing I noticed as I entered was the fragrance of a nice cologne for men and gospel music, very different from the usual jazz or urban music that I hear when I enter other stores for men. I was greeted by three very nice and quite humorous gentlemen whose delightful nature and cheerful banter made it hard for me to actually do "serious" shopping. More>>

Shed arsonist strikes again in Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach residents are worried about a serial arsonist on the loose.
An arsonist that has been lighting up sheds struck again on Saturday night. Police and residents are concerned that houses could be next.
"We shouldn't have to live like this. It's a ridiculous, senseless crime. There's no reason for it whatsoever," said Richard Kistulentz, a resident of the inflicted neighborhood.
Kistulentz spent Sunday evening installing motion lights in his back yard as a precaution.
"The only thing that woke me up was people banging on my door and banging on my window because they saw the smoke driving by," said Nancy Lee, whose shed was burned down two weeks ago.
"There was old pictures. We stored all our Christmas decorations, photo albums. My parents' wedding pictures were in there," described Lee. More>>

School lauded for academic gains
Schwarzenegger has called for spending reductions of 10 percent, including a cut of $4 billion from the state education budget, to close a deficit that's projected at $14.5 billion over the next 18 months.
The governor acknowledged that he had intended to introduce a series of education reforms this year but had to pull back because of the budget crisis.
Schwarzenegger, too, said other schools would do well to follow Otay's example.
"They didn't get any extra money," Schwarzenegger said. "It was just because of the will and the passion of the principal and the teachers."
In 2004, 16 percent of Otay's second-through sixth-graders passed the state English test. Last year, 43 percent did. Over the same period, the school's math pass rate rose from 32 percent to 58 percent. More>>

Giuliani laps Daytona track _ in his bus
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Rudy Giuliani sped across the finish line in Florida on Monday.
He didn't get the checkered flag he really wanted - victory in the Jan. 29 Republican primary - but had a great time all the same.
Giuliani's campaign bus took a detour from its two-day, eight-stop tour of Florida for a visit to the Daytona International Speedway. Aides assembled the press traveling with him in the grassy infield, setting up the camera shot they wanted - pictures of his giant "Florida is Rudy Country" bus tearing around the track and across the black-and-white finish line.
The big coach roared past the media pack, not at race speeds but fast enough to keep from tipping over on the banked track. Giuliani grinned in the front passenger seat.
No one was in the stands, though Giuliani - clad in his typical suit and tie - did mingle with a couple of dozen drivers and crew members. More>>
